It Started with Robin
The Oglesby family have been involved with Rat Terriers since 2001. It started when our oldest daughter, Robin, announced that she wanted a dog of her own for her birthday. Never mind we had 6 pet dogs at that time, she wanted a dog of her own. Her mom Janette asked her, “What breed? Maybe you should do some research.” We thought that would be the last of that…silly parents!
2 weeks later, after some exploring on the internet, Robin declares, “I want a Rat Terrier!” She could not be dissuaded. So now it was time for her mother to do some research to come up with a reputable breeder.
There were two litters at the breeders. The first was down to the last pup, a small attractive female. The other litter had half a dozen rollicking big puppies. While the grownups looked over the larger litter, Robin would not be drawn away from the little female and she was the one who went home. Robin named her Hidi.
Hidi was special
Hidi took an instant like to the Dad and soon was a constant companion on large animal ambulatory veterinary calls meeting the clients and horse owners. She became a beloved member of all the family and really of the larger community, she has more friends than most people. It was not unusual to be at the park or the lake only to be greeted with “Hi Hidi, where is your ball?” Sometimes by people the humans did not know!
The rest is history
Spring of 2015 Janette decides the breed is special and the rest is history. Now, breeding animals was not a new labor for the Oglesby’s. They had stood World Class Stallions, including a son of the immortal Secretariat. They were also breeding imported working line German Shepherd Dogs, which they continue to do to this day. Janette went looking for the very best of the Rat Terrier breed. Being a fairly young breed with wide ranging standards this was no easy task.
Janette remembers, “I did some research and found some phenomenal ladies. These ladies were and continue to be a huge presence in the Rat Terrier breed. I am very thankful to Ashley Bond, Lisa Sands and Tracey Kallas for allowing me to own some of the most phenomenal Rat Terriers on the planet”.
These ratties have become our family members and you can have one in your family too!
